99.1% of Chinese Online Are Mobile Users

The 44th China Internet Development Statistics Report shows that as of June 2019, the number of Chinese Internet users reached 854 million, and the Internet penetration rate reached 61.2%. The number of mobile Internet users reached 847 million, and the proportion of Chinese net users using mobile phones to access the Internet reached 99.1%.
Compared with 5 years ago, the average download speed of mobile broadband has increased by about 6 times. The report pointed out that the speed of the network and the decline in tariffs are driving the substantial growth of mobile Internet traffic.
As of June 2019, the number of online shopping users in China reached 639 million, an increase of 28.71 million compared with the end of 2018, accounting for 74.8% of the total net users. The number of mobile online shopping users reached 622 million, an increase of 29.89 million from the end of 2018, accounting for 73.4% of mobile Internet users.
The online shopping market has maintained rapid development and the market has developed into second- and third-tier cities. Cross-border e-commerce and model innovation have provided new growth momentum for the online shopping market. Through the rapid development of new models such as live sales, manufacturers’ e-commerce, and community retail, it has become a new bright spot for network consumption growth. Emerging markets, represented by small and medium-sized cities and rural areas, have expanded the space for online consumption growth.
